What I've Learned About Purpose (So Far)

What I've Learned About Purpose (So Far)

For as long as I can remember, I've believed there was more to life than just going through the motions — waking up, going through the day, and repeating it, without ever asking why. That belief didn't come with an answer attached. It came with a question that followed me for years: if there's more to life than the basic design, how do I actually find it?

That question became the beginning of a search.

The Search

I tried everything I knew to try. I prayed. I fasted. I read, I asked, I waited for something to click. And for a long time — nothing did. Not because nothing was happening, but because I hadn't yet found the right door.

If you've ever searched for something you couldn't quite name — a direction, a calling, a sense that your life is meant for something specific — you'll understand the particular kind of tiredness that comes with searching without results. It's not that you stop believing there's an answer. It's that you start to wonder if you're the exception to it.

I want to be honest about that season, because I think a lot of people are living in it right now, quietly, without saying so.

The Turn

This year, my search led me somewhere I didn't expect it to — into a book I'd heard of before but never really sat with: The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. I picked it up expecting, honestly, another attempt. Another try that might not go anywhere.

Instead, I found clarity.

Not all at once, and not in a single dramatic moment — but page by page, something began to shift. I started to understand purpose differently than I had before: not as a title, a career, or a single defining moment I was waiting to stumble into, but as something woven into the design of a life, discoverable rather than accidental. I began to see how the search itself — the years of trying, waiting, and not giving up — had never been wasted. And beneath all of it, I started to recognize a plan that had been unfolding long before I could see it clearly.

That clarity didn't answer every question I've ever had. But it answered enough — enough to change how I move forward, and enough to make me want to keep going deeper.

Where I Am Now

I'm still in this. Purpose isn't something I've arrived at and closed the book on — it's something I continue to study, test, and live into, day by day. What began as a personal search has become an ongoing part of who I am: someone who believes purpose is real, discoverable, and worth pursuing even when the search feels long.

If any part of this resonates with you — if you're in your own season of searching, or you're curious about what I've found so far — I'd genuinely love to talk about it. You can reach out through the form on my My Story page; I read and respond to every message myself.

This is only where I am so far. I have a feeling there's more ahead.
